SINTROPIA Entre Dones is an initiative promoted by the Biofilia Association that explores new forms of relationship between people, food production, biodiversity, and territory through syntropic agroforestry.

The project was born from the ecological, social, and territorial challenges affecting rural Catalonia, especially persistent drought, soil degradation, biodiversity loss, and the need to generate new opportunities for territorial rootedness.

The initiative investigates, adapts, and validates rainfed agroforestry models with the capacity to promote food production, improve water cycles, increase biodiversity, and strengthen the resilience of rural territories.

Specifically, the project involves the development of R&D&I actions aimed at validating replicable models for the ecological transition of rural territories.

Why this project?

In recent years, Catalonia has experienced a persistent drought that has highlighted the vulnerability of ecosystems, food systems, and many rural farms.

In this context, SINTROPIA Entre Dones promotes a perspective that understands the territory as a living system where water, soil, biodiversity, and people are part of the same network of interdependencies.

The project seeks to generate applied knowledge and demonstrative experiences that allow for the development of replicable models adapted to Mediterranean conditions and Catalan rural contexts.
